We have run an annual two day precision shooting clinic to benefit our home club (Langhorne Rod and Gun Club) for two years now, and it has been well attended and positively reviewed. One of the attendees enjoyed the course, and is active at Reade. He suggested we bump it up a couple notches and put one together up at Reade Range. We thought it was an awesome idea. This one will be a little more serious because we're shooting at extended distances and introducing some intermediate level concepts. For those reasons, we must be less forgiving where rifle, ammo, and shooter skill are concerned if we're going to keep the day moving at the correct pace.

The clinic will be conducted across two days. All on the range rain or shine, with some classroom work in the range building. This is being done non-profit as a benefit to the range. We all enjoy the matches that Miker puts on, so it is a chance to get a little tune up a month before the May match, and also to give back to the range a little bit. I even hear Miker might show up! :-)

Concepts (subject to change):

Day one:
• Elements of Basic Marksmanship
• Equipment (rifle, optics, ammo, etc)
• Trajectory / Zeroing
• Collecting, recording and using Data from zero to 1025Y (Paper / Steel)
• Wind compensation
• Calling shots
• MIL / MOA reticle formulas, breakdown and usage.
• Meteorological and Environmental considerations
• Individual coaching / observation
• Recreational fire and challenge shots from different distances.

On Friday / Saturday evenings, we will occupy the camping area, in which we will conduct the "official debriefing," and consume traditional American hobo treats.

Day two:
• Verify zero
• Putting MIL/MOA to work - UKD shots on steel / paper
• Focus on 700-1025Y
• Briefly introduce movers (400-600Y), and record engagement data
• Individual coaching / observation
• Recreational fire and challenge shots

  Requirements are firm. Waivers must be requested via email.

  • Open to novice shooters with proper equipment, but those who have competed or trained before will benefit the most.
  • ZEROED .30 to .338LM max caliber precision oriented / tactical rifle with 150 rounds of match grade ammunition (semi-autos, handloads & suppressors are fine).
  • Rifle MUST be equipped with a sling, and you must have a shooting platform (bipod, ruck).
  • Rucksack, or other portable container for all your gear. We are hoofing it from hill to hill guys. A converted toolbox is unacceptable.
  • Minimum 10x scope with external hand-adjustable elevation & windage knobs.

  • We plan to pair shooters up with a buddy, so get a friend on board too.
